Do you want to be found by your local customers?

We’ll assume the answer is yes 😉

Then you need to use Google My Business!

An optional marketing tool for many businesses pre-pandemic, in 2024, it has become an essential component of any successful marketing strategy.

Customers who are looking for the most up-to-date information about your company are likely to hit the Google Search bar and check out the panel on the right-hand side. And if the info isn’t there or isn’t optimised, you’ll lose customers to your competitors.

So, in this Google My Business Video guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about leveraging Google My Business to instantly boost your online visibility.

What is Google My Business?

Google My Business (now called Google Business Profile) is a free tool that allows you to create a listing on Google for your business. This enables you to easily connect with potential customers who find you on Google Search and Google Maps.

Below is an example of Google My Business or Google Business Profile.

But how does that work exactly?

Have you ever googled ‘’best restaurants near me’’ or ‘’Thai restaurants near me’’?

If that’s the case, you would have seen a few restaurant listings featuring opening hours and reviews coming up on the left-hand side of your screen. And you would also have seen a map on the right-hand side showing you where these restaurants are located.

For these restaurants to come up in your local search, they would have set up a Google My Business account to enable you to find them when typing your ‘’best Thai restaurants near me’’ query on Google.

Why Is Google My Business So Important?

If you own a business, chances are you want to improve your online visibility for local customers. And in 2022, leveraging the power of Google My Business is a no-brainer when it comes to enhancing your searchability for local customers. After all, 97% of users learn about local companies online.

So, here are three ways Google My Business can help your business thrive:

  • Maximise your visibility on Google: Google My Business allows you to show up in map listings, organic listings, and product listings, boosting your visibility across all of Google’s services including Google Maps, Google Search as well as Google Shopping.
  • Boost your local SEO rankings: the number of searches on Google including ‘’near me’’ has increased by a whopping 200% over the past two years. What’s more, 46% of Google searches are local searches. Having a Google My Business account allows you to use relevant keywords for local searches and immediately boost your local SEO rankings for these specific keywords. And this, in turn, increases your reach, and your impressions, and, ultimately, drives your sales organically.
  • Build trust: did you know that 90% of searchers read reviews about businesses? When a potential customer searches for the best businesses in your niche and in your area and your business information comes up with a lot of positive reviews, it immediately builds trust and can help convince them to use your services.

What’s more, Google My Business (GMB) has a direct messaging option, so customers can easily contact you. GMB is also the first place customers will go if they want to see your updated information such as opening hours or new health protocols.

Can You Add a Video to a Google My Business Listing?

Not only can you add videos to your Google My Business listing, but it’s in fact highly recommended. Indeed, according to studies, listings with photos and videos outperform listings that don’t have any.

Here’s how to upload a video to your Google My Business listing:

  • Register your business on Google My Business and enable your location to show up in Google Maps and Google Search.

Why is Google My Business Video So Important?

In today’s world, videos have become the most popular choice for content consumption. So much so that in 2021, 55% of people watched online videos every day and 78% every week.

Their easily digestible and entertaining nature explains why videos are so popular.

But perhaps even more telling is the fact that 79% of consumers have been convinced to purchase a product or service by watching a video about it. What’s more, 72% of people prefer to learn about a brand or product through videos and 54% of consumers would like to see more videos from brands.

As you can see, videos are a powerful marketing tool that you should most definitely leverage on your Google My Business listing.

Here are a few ways you can use Google My Business Video to create an emotional bond with your viewers and turn them into loyal customers:

  • Showing how your products or services are created
  • Introducing your team and showcasing your fun corporate culture
  • Creating relevant and entertaining video series that keep customers coming back
  • Giving a tour of your premises
  • Building trust and credibility by featuring your customers and how they benefit from your offering
  • Showing some candid behind-the-scenes footage showing your authentic and vulnerable side as a business

What Are Google My Business Video Guidelines?

While adding a video to your Google My Business listing is important, you won’t be able to add any video if your video doesn’t follow Google My Business video guidelines. And to help you optimise your video for your GMB listing, we’ve listed below the requirements you need to follow:

  • File size: up to 75 MB
  • Duration: up to 30 seconds
  • Videos must be taken in your business location
  • Only minimalistic aesthetic changes are accepted (filters, edits etc..)
  • High-resolution videos only
  • Superimposed text can only be up to 10% of the size of the image
  • Resolution: 720p or higher

You’ll find more information on Google My Business Video Guidelines on Google’s support page.

Why Is My Google My Business Video Rejected?

If after 24 hours, your Google My Business video doesn’t upload or is rejected, it might be because it’s not complying with the Google My Business video technical, quality or content guidelines.

For instance, if your footage is shaky or irrelevant to your business, it will most likely be rejected.

Alternatively, it could also be a bug due to new updates and in that case, you should try again a few hours later.

Best Google My Business Video Examples

Now that we’ve established that you need to create some compelling and engaging Google My Business Videos to upload on your GMB listing, you might be wondering what types of videos you should create.

To spark inspiration and help you create compelling video content, here are some of the best Google My Business Video examples:

Brand Story Video

Humans have been connecting for hundreds of years through storytelling. So, it’s no surprise that telling stories is one of the most powerful marketing tools for brands to engage with their customers. A compelling story will help spark viewers’ emotions and immerse them into your brand universe.

And this is exactly what TUI Foods did with its ‘brans story video’. By capturing cinematic content as well as dialogue from the brains behind the brand, they were able to truly showcase how the brand came to light, why it’s important and the passion of its people, enabling them to make a significant connection to their audience.

Testimonial Video

70% of people trust reviews from strangers and 88% say online reviews influence their purchasing decision. That’s why testimonial videos are a powerful tool in the video marketing arsenal to build trust and credibility and win over potential customers.

And Chadwick Architects knows it. In this testimonial video, a client mentions pain points and how Chadwick Architects solved them with professional knowledge. Additional to that, the client raves about the quality of service that was provided and the final outcome that exceeded their expectations.

Meet The Team Video

Meet the team videos are a great way to give potential consumers a taste of your unique company culture and show them what your brand is all about. They’re a window into your business that allows you to humanise your brand and help customers get to know your brand better.

The video by Demardi Builders is a great example of an upbeat and interesting Meet the Team video. They put the ‘fun’ back into video production to really display the personality of their team members so future clients would feel connected to the entire outfit.

Service or Product Video

3 seconds. That’s how much time you have to capture your audience’s attention. Now, it can be hard to draw in your customers with a long pamphlet about the benefits of your products or services. That’s where videos come into play! In fact, videos are consumers’ favourite way to learn about a new service or product.

That’s why more and more businesses are using service or product videos to talk viewers through their offers, and how their solutions can help them.

And to show you how it’s done here’s a video from Sheridan Building clearly stating (in under two minutes) the benefits of using a particular service offering and the value of using it.

Behind-The-Scene Video

Not only do behind-the-scenes videos humanise your organisation, but they also give your brand an authentic aspect by revealing what goes on away from the public eye. Behind-the-scene videos can be a great tool to showcase the fun and candid moments of you and your team and draw the viewers into your company culture in a more relaxed way than a corporate culture video would do for example.

Now, when it comes to the best behind-the-scenes videos, we really like the Gucci Aria video. It lifts the mystery of how Haute Couture designers like Alessandro Michele find inspiration for their collections helping viewers better connect with a world that’s sometimes opaque and beyond the average consumer. And it also gives the viewers a glimpse into what goes on behind creating a collection and promoting it. And this, in turn, shows us a more vulnerable and authentic side to Haute Couture.

Educational Video

Consumers often watch videos for fun or education. That’s why TikTok and YouTube videos are so popular. One is famous for allowing users to create fun and entertaining videos and the other one for enabling creators to upload powerful informative videos to help their audience answer a question they have. In fact, 52% of people reported watching two or more informational videos per week in 2021.

Tutorials are an excellent example of educational videos that have been thriving over the last few years. See below for one of our own examples.
